Trish Simonite Bio
Trish Simonite was born in Norwich, Norfolk, England. She married Richard Simonite and moved from England to Houston, Texas, in 1968. She studied photography and earned a BFA and MFA from the University of Texas at San Antonio. She taught photography at The Southwest School of Art, and in the Alamo Community College System, as well as at Trinity University in San Antonio, TX, where she taught photography and digital art and retired as Professor Emerita in 2018. . She and her husband have raised three talented children all of whom are lens-based artists.
Her still life and landscape photographs have been exhibited in group and solo shows in Europe and throughout the United States. Her work has been published in books and magazines including An Introduction to the Art of Photography, by Katie Stern, and Zoom Magazine. Collections holding her work include: The Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center Photography Collection at the University of Texas in Austin; the Peter Palmquist Collection of Women Photographers, Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library, YaleUniversity, Connecticut; the San Antonio Museum of Art; University Health Systems Hospital, San Antonio, Texas; The Witliff Collection at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas and the Linda Pace Collection in San Antonio, Texas.
She has worked on commissions and completed a large scale commission with her daughter, Francesca Simonite, for University Health Hospital’s Women’s & Children’s Tower, San Antonio, Texas. They each designed two floors floors of photo-based artwork that were installed along corridors and in patient and other rooms. The Tower opened in 2023.
In September 2026, she had a retrospective exhibition, Exquisite Entropy, Photographs by Trish Simonite, 1972 - 2025, at The Russell Hill Rogers Galleries of The University of San Antonio Southwest. The exhibition was curated by Paula Owen, former CEO and President of the Southwest School of Art, with the assistance of Scott Sherer, Gallery Director and Art Historian. Texas Commission of the Arts and the Elizabeth Huth Coates Charitable Foundation of 1992, assisted with funding a catalog with essays by Scott Sherer, Paula Owen and Trish Simonite. The catalog included 39 photographs, a bio, artist statement and CV.
